Voi requires a phone number for SMS verification on sign up, and before you can rent a scooter you'll need to complete this process. The good news is that you don't have to use your personal phone number, one of our non-VoIP phone numbers works fine for this. Voi is a Swedish-owned e-scooter and e-bike rental app for mobile devices, founded in 2018 in Stockholm. Voi has over 8 million downloads and lets users rent e-scooters and e-bikes by the minute. Download the Voi app to get started, find a scooter or bike on the in-app map, scan the QR code on the handlebar to unlock it, ride, then end the ride by parking in an allowed zone and locking it in the app. Voi usually charges a small unlock fee to start plus a per-minute rate while you ride, which depends on the city you're in.

Why does Voi ask for a phone number?

Voi requires a phone number on sign up to tie your account to a real person, which helps prevent fraud and duplicate accounts. The issue is that not everybody wants to hand over their personal number, due to things like data breaches or unwanted marketing texts.
