Line SMS Verification Tutorial

Line is a messaging app commonly used in Asia which requires an SMS verification when you sign up to their app, you cannot create an account without a phone number. Luckily, you do not have to give out your personal number. You can use one of our non-VoIP phone numbers.

What is Line?

Line is a feature rich messaging app widely used in Japan, Thailand and Indonesia. The app offers features such as messaging, calls, video calls, payments, stickers and it is owned by LY Corp, which is a Japanese-Korean company. Line is free to use and it is supported on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and can even be used within Chrome based browsers.

Why does Line ask for a phone number?

Line requires a phone number to help prove you're a real person, and it acts as your account identifier and how other Line users find you. The issue is that a lot of people do not wish to use their real phone number with Line due to data breaches, spam messages and sim swapping. They also block low quality numbers such as VoIP numbers, but luckily we use non-VoIP phone numbers, which Line accepts.

Why your Line verification code might not be sending

  • VoIP or internet number (blocked)
  • Number entered incorrectly
  • Your IP address doesn't match the number's country
  • Code in spam / filtered messages
  • Too many resend attempts (rate limit)
  • Number already registered to another Line account

How to fix Line SMS code not sending

  • Use a real non-VoIP number
  • Re-enter the phone number carefully to make sure it's accurate
  • Match your IP address to the number's country
  • Check spam / filtered folder
  • Wait before requesting again, don't spam resend
  • Order a fresh number if it keeps failing

How to verify Line with a temporary number

A temporary number keeps your personal number off the account, which is the main reason to use one. You get the code, verify, and your real number never touches Line.

Step 1: Create an SMSPool account. Go to SMSPool.net. Registration is fast and does not even require an email address if you would rather not use one.

Step 2: Add funds to your balance. Go to the Deposit page and add credit using card or crypto. Line SMS verifications are low cost, so we would suggest adding $3 to get started.

Step 3: Order a number for Line. Go to the Order page, select your country, then search for and select Line as the service. If you want to test it first without spending anything, the free SMS page lets you do that.

Step 4: Complete the purchase. Click the Quick Purchase button. SMSPool will generate a real, non-VoIP number for you within seconds.

Step 5: Verify your Line account. Enter the number on the Line app signup screen and request the code. When it arrives in your SMSPool dashboard, copy it and enter it in the app before it expires.

Temporary number or a rental?

The choice is completely up to you. Temporary numbers are cost-effective and are perfectly fine if the Line account isn't of huge importance. The issue you could face is that if you randomly get logged out and it needs an SMS verification again after 20 minutes, it's unlikely you'll be able to receive another code to log back in. Our long-term numbers on the other hand are more expensive, but you can rent them for up to 1 year or longer if you keep renewing, which ensures you can receive that Line SMS. You can also use it for other services, as long as it's not a financial service, government website or telecom provider.
