Tilt SMS Verification Tutorial

Tilt requires a mobile phone number during registration, and unfortunately there is no choice but to go through the SMS verification step. The positive news is that you will not need to put in your personal number, since using a genuine non-VoIP number from SMSPool for Tilt phone verification works.
What is Tilt?
Tilt is a UK live e-commerce app similar to a mix between eBay and Whatnot. Sellers set up live stream sessions for viewers to participate and win items through auctions, drops and even giveaways, all of course happening concurrently during the seller's live stream. What makes their background a bit interesting is that the founders are ex-Revolut employees.
As of now, investors have committed about $18 million to the company and it already has over half a million customers. While their main target region is the UK market, they are also planning to expand their operations to the US and Europe soon.
Why does Tilt ask for a phone number?
Tilt links your account with a phone number to confirm that you are a human being in order for them to prevent duplicate accounts and fraud. It also acts as a method of verification when you first join and for the security of the account.
As a buyer, you just need a phone number to sign up and start bidding. Sellers have to do more: before you can sell, Tilt asks for photo ID, your name and your date of birth, so it can confirm you are who you say you are before handling any money.
A virtual number covers the phone verification, but the photo ID and date of birth checks are down to you. Tilt also blocks VoIP and low-quality numbers, so you need a real number from a network carrier, which is exactly what we provide at SMSPool.
Why your Tilt verification code might not be sending
If your Tilt code isn't arriving, it's usually one of these:
- You're using a VoIP or internet number, which Tilt blocks.
- The number was entered incorrectly, wrong country code or format.
- The code landed in your spam or filtered messages folder.
- You've requested too many codes and hit a temporary rate limit.
- The number is already tied to another Tilt account.
How to fix Tilt SMS code not sending
- Switch to a real non-VoIP number if you were using a virtual one.
- Re-enter the number carefully, correct country code and digits only.
- Open your spam or filtered messages folder and check there.
- Wait a couple of minutes before requesting again, resending too fast locks you out.
- Still nothing? Cancel it and order a fresh number.
How to verify Tilt with a temporary number
A temporary number keeps your personal number off the account, which is the main reason to use one. You get the code, verify, and your real number never touches Tilt.
Step 1: Create an SMSPool account. Go to SMSPool.net. Registration is fast and does not even require an email address if you would rather not use one.
Step 2: Add funds to your balance. Go to the Deposit page and add credit using card or crypto. Tilt verifications are low cost, so we would suggest adding $3 to get started.
Step 3: Order a number for Tilt. Go to the Order page, select your country, then search for and select Tilt as the service. If you want to test it first without spending anything, the free SMS page lets you do that.
Step 4: Complete the purchase. Click the Quick Purchase button. SMSPool will generate a real, non-VoIP number for you within seconds.
Step 5: Verify your Tilt account. Enter the number on the Tilt app signup screen and request the code. When it arrives in your SMSPool dashboard, copy it and enter it in the app before it expires.

Temporary number or a rental?
Using a temporary number for a single registration should work just fine. You verify with it, and that's really the only thing you need to do here.
Tilt users often say switching your number down the line can be quite a burden, and even Tilt support will sometimes take forever getting it done. So if the Tilt account's really important to you, you're better off buying a long-term number. If you need the assurance that having the number on hand will let you easily get back in or re-verify your identity with Tilt at some future point, the long-term rental keeps the number reserved solely for your use for as long as you keep renewing it.
FAQ
Does Tilt require a phone number to sign up? Yes. Tilt requires a phone number to sign up and sends an SMS verification code to verify the number. You can't create an account without verifying a number.
Does Tilt accept VoIP numbers? No. Tilt blocks VoIP numbers, so you need a real non-VoIP number from a mobile carrier, which is what we provide.
Can I sign up to Tilt without my personal number? Yes. A non-VoIP number from SMSPool allows you to register a Tilt account with our numbers and keeps your personal number off the account.
Do I still need ID to sell on Tilt? Yes. Selling on Tilt requires photo ID, your name and date of birth as well as a verified number. A virtual number only covers the phone step, not the ID checks.
Why is my Tilt verification code not sending? It's usually because it's a VoIP number, the number was entered incorrectly, spam filtering, too many resend attempts, or a number already linked to another account.
Which country number should I use? Tilt is biggest in the UK, so a UK number is a safe choice for most people. Otherwise match the number to the region you're signing up in.
Can I change my Tilt number later? It's possible, but users report it can be painfully slow to sort out through customer support, so it's best to use a long-term rental on signup if the account is of any importance, especially if you're a seller.
How long does the code take? Usually between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.
What if no code arrives? Click the Refund button to cancel the number, or let the timer run out and it refunds automatically.
Can I use one number for more than one Tilt account? No. Each number ties to a single account, so you'll need a separate number for each one.
